The construction of the 50km Omuthiya-Elambo gravel road has commenced, with completion expected within two years.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on 18 February, Bicon Dunamis consultant Helena Uugwanga said during a site visit by Oshikoto governor Penda ya Ndakolo on Wednesday.
The gravel road will significantly improve access to schools, health facilities, and other essential services in the vicinity of Omuthiya and Elambo.
“This project will also create job opportunities for local communities for over two years,” Uugwanga said.
She urged the community to cooperate with the construction crew.
Uugwanga said the project is labour-based as they will not be using machinery.
“The road will run through a number of villages which will impact them positively. Some properties will be affected negatively, but we are going to negotiate with people,” the consultant said.
Ya Ndakolo expressed gratitude to the consultant and contractor and urged them to work closely with local communities as well.
He also stressed the importance of quality workmanship and cautioned against substandard road construction.
