Otjiwarongo Council officials in limbo

THE Otjiwarongo Municipality says it is awaiting a response from the Ministry of Regional and Local Government and Housing before taking further steps in the recent suspension of two senior officials.

The Municipality’s Public Relations Officer, Ismael /Howoseb, said they had written to the Ministry’s head office requesting that a team be sent to investigate the town’s finances before further action was taken. “The officials remain on suspension while we await the response,” /Howoseb said.Town Clerk Paulus Haipare and Treasurer Immanuel Kaundje were suspended recently but no charges were laid.Both denied any wrongdoing.Kaundje handed in his resignation letter a few minutes before the Council decided to suspend him.Kaundje said he resigned because he was offered another job while his health had also not been good for the last couple of months.Sources said yesterday that he had sold his house and was preparing to leave town.Haipare said he was awaiting formal charges before he would contact his lawyers.”The officials remain on suspension while we await the response,” /Howoseb said.
