Otjomuise boys gear up for SFC tourney

History will be made this weekend for a group of under 13 youngsters from Otjomuise, Sewende Laan and Agste Laan suburbs who will be competing in the Swakop Football Club (SFC) soccer tournament at the coast.

Not only will it be their debut at the tournament but many of the youngsters will see the holiday resort of Swakopmund for the first time.

The youngsters have been competing in the NFA Youth League and Inner City League in Windhoek for the past couple of years but have yet to compete in a tournament outside the city.

This will change next Saturday when they take on their counterparts from as far as Otjiwarongo and Rosh Pinah as well as the likes of Swallows, Ramblers and SKW (all from Windhoek) and the hosts, SFC.

This was made possible through a generous sponsorship by Camoposatu Investments Pty (Ltd) board of directors, represented by its chairperson Nico Kaiyamo, who saw the need to give the boys the much-needed exposure.

On Saturday, the boys had a proper warm-up for the tournament when they beat SKW A 2-1 in the NFA league. They, however, suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of their Tura Magic counterparts.

The Swakop tourney is more than a soccer outing for the boys since it will also serve as an educational excursion as the Otjomuise Football Academy does not only create the platform for the boys to play football.

Coach Sacky Elago, himself a Polytechnic of Namibia student who uses training sessions to also help the boys with school work, assignments or even give them pep talks about education, will get an opportunity to show them important national heritage sites.

As such, the trip will mean more than just a soccer game for the boys, but coach Elago and the boys are determined to challenge for honours at the tournament.

They are currently occupying first place on the Inner City League log from 10 teams and third place out of 12 teams on the NFA league log.

Some of their current opponents include Swallows, SKW, Ramblers, Tura Magic and Mario ‘s Academy.
