THE residents of Otweya transit settlement at Walvis Bay say although good Samaritans have been showering them with donations, there are important things they have forgotten in the aftermath of the Twaloloka fire disaster.
They say they are unable to cook the food they have received, because they have no stoves or fire wood.
While some people have been cooking at friends and relatives’ houses, others have no relatives and rely on people that bring them soup.
The residents say it is better to be divided into groups and cook with gas stoves. They also asked donors to bring them cooked food or take their food for cooking.
They also fear contracting Covid-19, as their masks burned in the fire.
” We walk around without masks, which is risky. We desperately need masks to protect ourselves from the virus. Although we have a temporary place to stay, Walvis Bay is unfortunately also very windy. Last night’s sandstorms were really bad. At least a mask can protect us against the dust,” said Koris Kaura.
