Outjo girls host cricket camp

OUTJO – The Outjo girls cricket team, which is also the current junior girls national T20 cricket league champions hosted a successful training camp in Outjo last Saturday.

The training camp was hosted with the aim of preparing the girls for the upcoming women’s league which starts later this month, as well as for more tournaments in the pipeline this year.

The training camp was conducted at the Outjo cricket grounds and over 25 girls attended the camp which was conducted by Cricket Namibia development officer Wilhelm Tuhafeni with the assistance of senior players who also played in the national cricket team last year.

“The camp focussed on high performance coaching of various cricket aspects such as batting, bowling, fielding and fitness, which we believe is crucial especially at the level where the girls are now,” Petrus said.

The girls team was developed two years ago through the FNB Kwata cricket program and currently has over 25 active and talented girls from various schools in Outjo.

The Outjo girls cricket team’s official sponsor Outjo Spar owner Ronelle Raes said her business was proud to invest in the girls team and it was good to see the girls so passionate and committed towards the sport.

Deon van Zyl of Sanlam Namibia said he was impressed by the achievements of the team which is currently ranked number one in the junior girls national T20 cricket league.
