The Ministry of Environment, Foresty and Tourism has confirmed the deaths of more than 100 buffalo in the Zambezi region due to a stampede early on Friday morning.

Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said the ministry received a report on the incident on Friday.

It is suspected that the buffalo were being chased by lions.

“Conservancy officials are at the scene and ministry officials have been dispatched to conduct further investigation. Information we are receiving is that over 100 buffalo unfortunately drowned in the stampede.

“We will confirm the exact number and other relevant details as the investigation progresses.”

Muyunda said no injured people were reported, and this is not the first time such an incident happens.
