FORMER Universal Sounds executive Robert Shipanga has urged artists who owe the late producer, Araffath Muhuure, money to pay back their debts in order for his only son to benefit.
“If you owe Araffath, please pay your debts, that money needs to go to his son, if you don’t, he will haunt you all, those who have incomplete projects know themselves,” he said at the memorial service in Windhoek on Thursday.
He said a few days before the producer’s passing, he was fighting for his music rights at the Namibian Society of Composer and Authors of Music (Nascam), with the aim of getting his hard-earned funds.
“We can assure you that his music rights are fully protected and the royalties will be paid to those beneficiaries,” he said.
According to Shipanga, the producer left behind many incomplete music projects, albums and beats.
Speaking at the memorial service, former Nascam CEO John Max urged artists not to misuse Araffath’s music.
“If you want to remix his songs, there are procedures that need to be followed,” he said.
Pastor Haruna Goroh urged musicians to stay away from the abuse of drugs.
“The man who is laying here was going through a lot, did you know that he was struggling to pay rent and his fellow musicians would show up at the studio just to ‘smoke and make a beat’. You don’t need to be high to enhance your talent, if it is given to you, just be you, why be high?”
Goroh said musicians should constantly be prayed for as the music industry is highly targeted by the ‘enemy’.
Muhuure passed away recently after a short illness.
The renowned producer was laid to rest on Saturday at Omatjete, where artists like Ras Sheehama, Swart Baster, Lady Dyna and D-Naff bid him farewell.
