Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) and Affirmative Repositioning (AR) have extended condolences to the Usakos family in the Erongo region, following the tragic incident on Saturday where six lives were lost in a fire.
According to a police report, six family members lost their lives after the shack they were in was engulfed by fire.
Among the deceased are a 90-year-old grandmother, an 18-year-old woman, two three-year-old children, and two six-year-old children.
PDM Erongo regional coordinator Roger Nautoro says this heartbreaking loss has shaken the region and the nation to its core.
“On behalf of the PDM leadership, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community of Usakos. We stand with you during this extremely painful time and pray for strength, comfort, and healing for all those affected. We wish to commend the Namibian Police for their swift and professional response to this incident.
“We remain hopeful and trust that a thorough investigation will uncover the truth of what happened, and that justice will be served,” Nautoro said in a statement issued on Monday.
He said as the leadership of PDM, they reaffirm their confidence in the legal system and call for a full and fair process to ensure accountability.
Nautoro said such violent behaviour must never be allowed in society as every Namibian has a right to feel safe.
He called for action against destructive behaviours, especially drug and alcohol abuse that are tearing apart the fabric of communities and affecting young people the most.
AR in a statement on Monday also condemned the nature of the tragedy, citing a growing concern of violence in society. The party extended it’s condolences and reaffirmed it’s solidarity with the bereaved family.
AR said the tragedy is a wake up call for an urgent need to establish mental health facilities that are currently lacking, while also advocating for youth mentorship to target rehabilitation programmes, moral development and social responsibilities.
The party further suggested reinforcement of community protection networks where life is valued and pr
otected.
