The top six leaders of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) have all retained their positions following an elective congress held over the weekend at Katima Mulilo.

Party president McHenry Venaani retained his position for the next five years, along with his deputy, Jennifer van den Heever.

The three-day national elective congress of the PDM held at Katima Mulilo concluded on Saturday, with the top six retaining their positions.

Electoral officer Roger Nautoro announced on Sunday that secretary general Manuel Ngaringombe, his deputy Linus Thobias, national chairperson Diederick Vries and treasurer Nico Smit will also serve another term in their positions.

The electoral officer said the leaders have adopted the party’s constitution unanimously and it has been decided to extend the management with two additional portfolios.

“We added the deputy treasurer general and the vice chairperson, as well as a spokesperson at the management level. Therefore, this afternoon we have announced the top eight as duly elected,” he said.

He then announced that the founding deputy treasurer as elected is Sydney Ndumbah and vice national chairperson Rosa Mbinge-Tjiuendo, while the spokesperson will be appointed at a later date.

During the official opening of the congress on Friday, Venaani also announced that this will be his last elective congress as he will hand over the reigns to the next leader after this term.

“For 10 years, I have been the leader of this party. However, this is going to be my last elective congress as president. At the next congress, I will come here to hand over power to the next leader. I am a democrat in my veins, and as such, I have created a spectrum for it to shine,” he said.
