Pick n Pay shops to be renamed ‘Model’

OHLTHAVER & List Group (O&L) on Monday announced that as of 1 July, a wholly Namibian-owned brand, Model, will officially replace Pick n Pay Namibia.

O&L last year announced it will terminate its Pick n Pay Namibia franchise agreement with Pick n Pay South Africa on 30 June 2025, after 27 years of operation in Namibia.

Managing director of Model Graeme Mouton said while they are keeping some details under wraps for now, Model will introduce a fresh and dynamic approach to retail, with hand-picked quality products and a thoughtfully curated shopping experience.

“Customers can look forward to a new benchmark in grocery retail that is designed around their needs – one that is inspiring, seamless and uniquely Namibian,” Mouton said.

From 1 July 2025, Model will officially launch across Namibia.

The transition is already in motion, with a phased refurbishment approach that will gradually bring the full Model experience to life.

“As we take full ownership of our retail future, we invite all Namibians to join us on this exciting journey. Stay tuned for more details as we unveil what’s next. The countdown to a revolutionary retail experience has begun,” Mouton said.

O&L executive chairman Sven Thieme said O&L’s retail journey began with Model in 1965, and now, 60 years later, they return to these roots with renewed passion and purpose.

“This transition is more than a name change; it is a bold evolution that will redefine how Namibians shop. Our commitment to our people, both employees and customers, remains unchanged, ensuring continuity in service while introducing fresh opportunities for growth and excellence,” Thieme said.
