Pirates avoid Arrows

Pirates avoid Arrows

PREMIERSHIP giants Orlando Pirates and Eleven Arrows avoided each other for the semi-final clashes of the Cell One NFA Cup held in Windhoek yesterday.

Pirates will instead meet another great side in Ramblers, while Arrows have to sort matters out with premiership table-toppers SKW in the other tie for the semi-final matches scheduled for Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on May 30.With their chances of landing the league title, both Pirates and Arrows are gunning for the more lucrative Cell One Cup of which the finals will be determined later in June.Arrows dismissed lower-division outfit Newcastle United 6-0 at the weekend to book themselves a place in the semis, while Pirates managed a 1-0 win over fellow Katutura rivals African Stars to go through in matches played last weekend. Both teams will be hoping to make it to the final, with Pirates desperately needing to please its die-hard and rather demanding supporters, while Arrows has to compensate for their unlucky run in the league after a great start at the beginning of the season.SKW are perfectly positioned for a double provided they come clean in their remaining four league matches, while Ramblers will have everything to fight for as they don’t want to end the season empty handed.SKW will also aim for making history by becoming the first team ever to win a double since Independence.Ramblers had a poor season overall and a place in the final to at least walk away with a couple of thousand will restore a bit of pride in the players and the management.corry@namibian.com.na
