Pohamba talks about the glorious and the inglorious

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba has called on those he says ‘were misled by some opposition parties’ to come back home to Swapo and contribute together to the development of Namibia and its people.

President Pohamba was speaking during a Swapo Rally at Helao Nafidi in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday. He was accompanied by founding President Sam Nujoma, Swapo Secretary General Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana and her Deputy Nangolo Mbumba, Cabinet ministers and their deputies.’I would like to call upon those citizens who were misled by some opposition parties to restore their glorious history for themselves and for the sake of their children by coming back to their natural home, the Swapo Party family,’ the President said. ‘They must restore their pride by joining hands with us and take the country to greater heights. All those who still accept the aims and objectives of the Swapo Party are most welcome to come back home, to come back to the Swapo Party, the party of choice for most Namibians, the political home of the majority Namibians. ‘Come out from the political wilderness and join your former comrades so that together we can build our country.’Pohamba said the true history of Namibia is that Sam Nujoma is the founder of Swapo and of the Namibian nation. ‘You cannot remove the name of Sam Nujoma from the history of Namibia. Sam Nujoma is the founder of Swapo and of the Namibian nation,’ Pohamba said, adding that he is happy to be his successor. Pohamba said Namibia’s glorious history should serve to strengthen our resolve as a nation to continue striving for social justice and the improvement of the standards of living of all Namibians. President Pohamba rejected claims by the opposition that he had lost vision.Namibia is facing enemies such as poverty, hunger, disease, ignorance, underdevelopment, racism, tribalism, regionalism and ethnicity, he said. He sounded a special warning against tribalism, saying that tribalism has torn nations apart, leading to chaos, looting, rape and starvation. The President said it is the duty of every patriotic Namibian to condemn in the strongest possible terms some opposition politicians who instigate tribalism in Namibia in a futile attempt of attracting tribal support.oswald@namibian.com.na
