Police officer Abraham Kaiser remains in custody after appearing in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for threatening to shoot his wife.
Kaiser was arrested on Monday after he reportedly threatened to shoot his wife with his service pistol on Friday night at their home at Keetmanshoop.
He was charged with assault by threatening and was not asked to plea.
State prosecutor Marlon Adams told the court the complainant stated in her affidavit that she fears for her life and, therefore, the state opposes bail.
Magistrate Erich Dandu thereafter informed Kaiser to lodge a bail application on Thursday for arguments to be heard.
Kaiser remains in custody while further investigations are conducted.
Meanwhile, a family member who requested anonymity, said this is the second time Kaiser has shot at his wife.
During the first incident, Kaiser reportedly shot his wife in the leg but she did not register a criminal case.
This time, he again shot at his wife, but missed, said the source.
“This couple has been married for six years and that’s how long the fighting has been going on. The man has a gambling problem and his wife is not allowed to say a thing when he comes home late. That is when the shooting and threatening starts,” said the family member.
Both incidents occurred at the couple’s marital home in the presence of their four children.
