Police reveal names of fatal B1 road accident victims

The Namibian police have released the names of eight of the nine victims involved in an accident that occurred along the Otjiwarongo-Otavi road on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson deputy commisssioner Kauna Shikwambi on Friday said among those who lost their lives are Eduardo Tyimbsndi (63), believed to be a South African national, Sofia Likuva (83), Festus Ndakolo (29), Nelson Linyunga (28), Reagan Kwala (40), Titus Limanga Johannes (41), Anna Rangaman (13) and Hendrick Mazambo Gab (2).

The accident, which occurred on the B1 road, involved a collision between a 7-seater vehicle and an SUV, resulting in the extensive loss of lives.

It is further alleged that a Brazilian national, identified as the driver of the Fortuner, has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide, reckless driving and inconsiderate driving under the Road Traffic Act 1988.

Shikwambi said the suspect is currently under police guard at a hospital at Otjiwarongo.

Although the police later said there was a ninth victim who died in the accident, they have not revealed the name.

It is alleged that the police have transferred the case to Otavi for further investigation, with the suspect’s first court appearance scheduled for 27 June.
