Only one political party showed up to a political debate organised by the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) on Thursday evening.
The Africa Institute of Environmental Law, in collaboration with the Social Economic Justice Unit of the CCN, organised a public discussion forum, titled: ‘Policy Options for a Just Energy Transition for Namibia’.
Swapo, the Popular Democratic Movement, the Independent Patriots for Change and other political parties did not pitch up for the debate in Windhoek.
This is despite some parties preaching a pro-church narrative during their election campaigns.
National Youth Council of Namibia board vice chairperson Josef van der Westhuizen said the fact that political parties did not make themselves available for the debate raises concern on how they plan to run the country in future.
“This situation speaks to how it will look in the future … how they want to lead,” he said.
“Their absence will be as evident as [it was] tonight. That’s the message they are sending to the electorate,” he added.
