POLLUTED WATER RESERVOIR … Former Cabinet minister Calle Schlettwein has raised concerns over the state of the Goreangab Dam, saying it has deteriorated from a freshwater source for Windhoek to a polluted water reservoir, with water quality almost comparable to a sewage pond. The retired politician says “its overflow and other runoff from Windhoek and raw sewage from Okahandja empty into the Swakoppoort Dam, an important fresh water source for Windhoek, but also for Karribib and Usakos”. According to the former minister, Swakoppoort Dam is now heavily polluted and eutrophic, “meaning the water quality is very close to being unsuitable for human consumption.
