Power outage affects Elisenheim estate

RESIDENTS of Elisenheim location north of Windhoek have been experiencing a power outage since Tuesday afternoon.

According to City of Windhoek spokesperson Harold Akwenye, Elisenheim gets electricity from a temporary supply point in Windhoek’s Northern Industrial Area.

“This line has no alternative supply and this has resulted in a prolonged outage. The line experienced multiple faults and our team is currently on the ground repairing it,” he said.

Akwenye said unfortunately the cable was old, which was problematic when it came to fault finding and repair.

“One fault has been repaired and multiple more faults have been found. The recent heavy rains in the area resulted in cable insulation integrity being compromised, resulting in the underground cable fault. Unfortunately, even Natis [in Northern Industrial Area] and the surrounding customers are affected,” he said.

However, he said the electricity would be restored by this evening.

A resident of Elisenheim told on Wednesday afternoon that they were cautioned to use less water since their reservoir was powered by electricity.

The resident also said they were advised to get generators in case the electricity was not restored on Wednesday.
