The preliminary results of the 2023 Population and Housing Census (PHC) will be released on 13 March 2024.
This was said in a recent statement issued by Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) spokesperson Iipumbu Sakaria, who said the main census report will be released later this year.
Namibia held a population and housing census last year to assess changes in population and household structures over the last decade.
“It was a massive exercise and we are happy that the field work part is complete and went smoothly,” said Sakaria.
He said the preliminary census results will comprise of the main indicators on population size and growth, as well as indicators on households.
“The population size will be made available, and of course comparisons can be taken between different census areas. We will also have an indicator of total men and total women for both urban and rural areas,” he said.
According to Sakaria, the preliminary results will include population dynamics per region, analyse male and female trends per region, as well as for urban and rural areas.
Namibia is one of the least densely populated areas in the world and the updated population figures will provide new population density figures for the country, said Sakaria, adding that the preliminary results will also provide statistics on the total number of households, the average household size, average household size by region, as well as statistics on concentration of residential structures.
“The preliminary results will provide demographic and household data for planning, while the main census aims to bring forth complete information on the census exercise. The preliminary report will present the final results on population size and sex ratio, population density, and structures, broken down to a regional level, while the basic report will contain additional statistics generated from all different modules of the 2023 PHC questionnaires,” added Sakaria.
