President announces governors

In a press statement released by the Office of the President earlier today, President Hage Geingob announced the names of the 14 governors who will serve as political heads of Namibia’s regions.

“Governors serve at the pleasure of the President as prescribed under Article 110A (2) of the Namibian Constitution, and as such, they may be reassigned to other regions or removed from office.

“Further functions may be assigned to them by the Minister of Urban and Rural Planning. As the appointing authority, the President, from time to time, will also assign further functions to the governors, and in respect of such further functions and assignments from the Minister of Urban and Rural Planning, they are expected to report to both the minister and to the President,” said the statement.

The conditions of employment of governors are perked at the level of a deputy minister.
