Prime minister’s office dismisses allegations of interference with Public Service Commission

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has refuted allegations made by an employee who accused the office of interfering with the independence of the Public Commision Service (PSC).

Sylvester Goraseb yesterday protested in front of the OPM in chains, claiming that the PSC’s current structure compromises its independence and autonomy to function impartially.

He also questioned the integrity of some of the OPM’s staff members.

“The OPM reiterates that we stand for fairness. Therefore, the allegations levelled by Mr Syvester Goraseb are false, unfounded and malicious, aimed at only creating an unnecessary rift between government offices and the Public Service Commission,” the OPM said in a statement released yesterday.

The OPM urged Goraseb to adhere to established public service grievance procedures in order to air any concerns he may have with fellow staff members, and to submit such grievances through the appropriate channels.

The OPM said that it prides itself in treating all staff members fairly and without prejudice meaning any grievances submitted would be handled with the utmost professionalism.

It added that the PSC operates independently and without any undue influence from the prime minister’s office.

This working relationship, OPM said, has existed for 35 years since its existence, and no record of
interference is recorded.
