Public Service Different To Politics

Public Service Different To Politics

WE are currently experiencing political intolerance and this is a serious concern to most of us, since we are law-abiding and peace-loving citizens of this great nation.

In recent years, especially after the RDP entered our political landscape, we started to witness incidents, political intimidation and harassment. The RDP, which is a legal registered and a legitimate political party, was barred from holding its rally at Outapi, most of their star rallies were disrupted, some of their members were attacked and their properties damaged for no apparent reason. Some individuals were witch-hunted, victimised and lost their jobs. However, the recent incident at Haimbili Haufiku SSS, whereby a gang of Swapo supporters demonstrated and demanded the removal of the School principal, Mr Dineinge Sheya, cannot go unchallenged. Just because Mr Sheya is a member of the lawful registered political party, which is RDP, does not necessarily mean that he is incompetent or unfit to be in the public service. Hence the sudden call for his removal is nonsense and uncalled for. He is a public servant and not a political appointee, hence he will not be removed by any political party. It is a pity that the SPYL in the Ohangwena region cannot differentiate between a public servant and a political appointee, just as they cannot differentiate between the Government of Namibia and Swapo. The organs of the government are clearly stipulated in the public service guidebook, without mentioning any political party.Let me sign off by telling fellow Namibians that we cannot achieve anything with hatred and blackmail. Let us rather unite and build a great nation. God bless NamibiaSem Paul KatetaOmuntele
