Public warned against fake job offers at prison

The Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) says it has been receiving numerous reports from the public regarding individuals falsely claiming to be recruiters from the department.

In a statement issued on Friday, deputy commissioner John Kambimbi says fraudsters are soliciting money from the public, falsely promising to secure them employment with the NCS in exchange for payment.

“One alarming report detailed that these individuals requested N$2 000 from a caller, under the pretence that recruits would be sent to South Africa for specialised training,” he says.

“We would like to inform the public that the shortlisting process for the recruitment advertisement, published in February 2024, has not yet been finalised,” he says.

Kambimbi says the NCS assures members of the public they will be notified once the process is complete.

“The NCS would further like to advise against making any payment to individuals claiming to be correctional officers, or offering employment in exchange for money,” he says.

He says these claims are fraudulent and urges the public to report any such attempts to the nearest police station, or to call the head of the NCS’ security directorate at 081 954 6013.

Kambimbi says the NCS is committed to maintaining a transparent and fair recruitment process.
