Punjab wrap up series

Punjab wrapped up the Castle Lite Cricket Series in style with an emphatic 10-wicket victory against the Namibian Eagles on Sunday.

After electing to bat, the Eagles were bundled out for 147, a total which was way too low for the visitors, who reached the target without the loss of a wicket and with 36 overs to spare.

In Namibia’s innings, JC Balt was dismissed early on for 3, and although the rest of the top order tried to rebuild the innings, they never got going, with wickets falling at regular intervals.

Malan Kruger scored 15, Gerhard Erasmus 14 and JJ Smit 10, and when Michael van Lingen was trapped lbw by Sanvir Singh for a top score of 34 off 45 balls (4×4), Namibia were 93/5 after 20 overs.

The middle and lower order could not revive the innings, with only JP Kotze (16), Hanro Badenhorst (10) and Junior Kariata (11) reaching double figures before they were all out for 147.

Mayank Markande was Punjab’s best bowler, taking three wickets for 21 runs off 7,3 overs, while Siddharth Kaul took 2/12 and Sanvir Singh 2/31.

Punjab’s openers Simran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh attacked Namibia’s bowlers from the outset as they chased down the target with ease.

Simran Singh eventually reached 88 not out off only 49 balls (8×4, 6×6), while Anmolpreet Singh was not out on 53 off 36 balls (6×4, 3×6) as they reached 149 without loss off only 14,1 overs.

With that Punjab won their third successive match to take an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five match series.

The fourth match takes place at the Wanderers on Tuesday, starting at 09h30.
