Pupils admitted to hospital after being injured by falling water tank at Kavango East school

Three children have been admitted to Rundu Intermediate Hospital after a water tank fell on them at a village in the Kavango East region on Tuesday.

The police’s regional crime investigations coordinator in Kavango East, Bonifasius Kanyetu, confirmed the incident, saying the three pupils at Gabriel Muhuli Combined School at the village Mazana were standing under a water tank stand before the tank fell down.

“They were all rushed to Rundu state hospital, their conditions for now is not known,” Kanyetu said.

More information would be communicated after visiting the children at the hospital, Kanyetu added.

One of the children is in Grade 2 at the school and two are in Grade 3, Kanyetu stated.

The acting regional director for education and Sambyu circuit education inspector, Blasius Haita, said the Directorate of Education was notified of an incident in which two water tanks collapsed.

Haita said after learning of the incident, he visited the pupils in the hospital with the school management, including the principal.

“I went to the hospital, the kids were attended by the doctor, and I can say they are in a stable condition,” Haita said.

Haita said a technical team will be deployed to the school for an assessment since the cause of the incident is unknown.
