Pupkewitz Gala in Katutura

THE annual Pupkewitz Schools Gala will be held in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Oranjemund this weekend.

The gala, which has been sponsored by the Pupkewitz Foundation for many years, is the flagship development event of the Namibia Swimming Union, which takes swimming to the broader Namibian community.

The gala will be held simultaneously at three venues – at the Katutura swimming pool in Windhoek, the indoor swimming pool in Swakopmund and in Oranjemund.

More than 700 swimmers from a total of 36 schools will compete at the various venues in Primary School and Secondary School categories.

A total of 501 swimmers from 23 schools will compete in Windhoek, 109 swimmers from nine schools in Swakopmund, and 135 swimmers from four schools in Oranjemund.

Meanwhile, the first Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala of the season took place last weekend with 112 swimmers competing at the Katutura Swimming Pool.

Eliphas Nakaleke of Aqua Swimming Club set a new record in the Boys u9 50m butterfly event with a time of 41,33 seconds.
