ONYAANYA – The railway substation at Onyaanya in the Oshikoto Region was only inaugurated 10 days ago, and already its nameplate has been defaced.
Works, Transport and Communication Minister Joel Kaapanda expressed disappointment at the vandalism when he opened the station on Thursday. The station is named after King Shikongo sha Kalulu, a prominent former chief of the Ondonga tribal area in which Onyaanya falls.Kaapanda urged the community to refrain from vandalism and to show respect for the late King Shikongo sha Kalulu. This should also apply to road signs, Kaapanda said.He cautioned that road signs were there to warn people of road hazards, and vandalising them put people’s lives at risk. The Minister also urged traditional and community leaders to educate people not to erect shacks or cuca shops within 30 metres of a public road.He said it was dangerous to live so close to a road, because cars might crash into these structures.NampaThe station is named after King Shikongo sha Kalulu, a prominent former chief of the Ondonga tribal area in which Onyaanya falls.Kaapanda urged the community to refrain from vandalism and to show respect for the late King Shikongo sha Kalulu. This should also apply to road signs, Kaapanda said.He cautioned that road signs were there to warn people of road hazards, and vandalising them put people’s lives at risk. The Minister also urged traditional and community leaders to educate people not to erect shacks or cuca shops within 30 metres of a public road.He said it was dangerous to live so close to a road, because cars might crash into these structures.Nampa
