Rains soak much of country

GOOD showers continued falling in several parts of the country through to yesterday with Windhoek West noting the highest recording.

In the 24 hours to 08h00 yesterday Windhoek West received 40 millimetres, followed by Pionierspark (also in the capital) with 39 mm. Katutura recorded 38 mm, and Suiderhof 37 mm, weather forecaster Gerhardt Kaumunika told The Namibian.Academia, a southern suburb of the capital, also recorded 37 mm, Otjozondu 28, Hochfeld (in central Namibia) 32 mm and Okaukuejo 22 mm.The Weather Bureau itself registered 28 mm.Tsumeb recorded 15 mm, and Ondangwa got 0,8 mm.Karasburg, in the South, also receive 0,8 mm.Kaumunika said good showers, although scattered, were still expected over much of Namibia’s interior, except for south-west and the Namib.The Chief Meteorological Technician at the Namibia Meteorological Service, Jennifer Moeti, said central Windhoek had so far received 71,5 mm in the first days of January, almost equal to the average for the whole of January, 77,5 mm.Katutura recorded 38 mm, and Suiderhof 37 mm, weather forecaster Gerhardt Kaumunika told The Namibian.
