Ramaphosa hails Nandi-Ndaitwah’s presidency as a win for women’s leadership in Africa

SOUTH African president Cyril Ramaphosa has lauded Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s rise to the Presidency, saying it recognises the role women play on the continent.

He was speaking to the media at State House soon after the transfer of power from former president Nangolo Mbumba to Nandi-Ndaitwah in Windhoek on Friday.

“It’s something we celebrate. It’s something that’s been long in the making. This is about the recognition of the role women on our continent play, and the more they are given the opportunity, the more they are recognised in terms of their capability, in terms of their leadership.

“We want women on our continent to rise to the highest positions in our various countries, and our hearts are warmed by what we have seen here that the role of women has been fully embraced, and we also embrace it,” he said.
