The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) wants to reduce Namibia’s seal population by half if it wins the upcoming elections.
Speaking at the party’s recent manifesto launch at Ongwediva, RDP presidential candidate Mike Kavekotora said the move will increase revenue from the fisheries industry by 100% and create 40 000 jobs.
“RDP plans to recover stolen state resources by going after the culprits, and reduce the seal population from the current two million to around one million over a 10-year period,” he said.
In addition, the RDP wants to increase the participation of small and medium enterprises and Namibian citizens in the mainstream economy, said Kavekotora.
According to Kavekotora, all successful countries derive their success from good corporate governance architecture and prudent business principles, which is why the RDP should be voted into power.
“This election is a choice between either allowing Swapo to continue running this country down or giving the RDP the mandate to grow the collapsing economy through realistic economic policies.
We have never come across a country on this globe that thrived on political policies.
This election is about reclaiming what Namibians fought and died for. They fought for land and the land must be reclaimed.”
Kavekotora said the forthcoming election is all about economic emancipation.
“The RDP will aim to seek a constitutional amendment in addressing the land question. It is a futile exercise to continue with these land conferences that do not yield any tangible results.
The RDP administration will only focus on the delivery of social housing to the lower income segment of the market.
Banks and other financial institutions can cater for the upper segment. We will introduce multi-story apartments in our main cities and towns, funded through the national budget. Land servicing for social housing will be for free.”
Kavekotora noted that the RDP will shut down all foreign missions that do not add value to the country’s economy.
He also said the RDP will investigate inflated tenders.
“We at the RDP are strongly convinced that Swapo has lost vision and completely deviated from the true meaning of independence.
Swapo no longer represents the needs and aspirations of the Namibian people.
They adopt a wrong culture of self-enrichment and self gratification. We at the RDP consider economic growth as the engine of social progress to ensure a better life for every citizen of Namibia,” he said.
