A CHANGE in the Traffic Act from the first of January has made it compulsory for every vehicle to carry at least one double-sided reflective warning triangle.
Asked about the reasons for the new requirement, senior traffic officer JH Engelbrecht at the Swakopmund Municipality said: “This change has been made because people are stopping next to the road and they do not even leave one metre of space [to the road]. A triangle increases visibility in such cases.”It is also now compulsory for every trailer to have reflectors on its rear and sides.Trucks longer than six metres must also be fitted with reflectors. The traffic authorities warn that spot checks will be carried out and that the fine for non-compliance is N$300.A triangle increases visibility in such cases.”It is also now compulsory for every trailer to have reflectors on its rear and sides.Trucks longer than six metres must also be fitted with reflectors. The traffic authorities warn that spot checks will be carried out and that the fine for non-compliance is N$300.
