Rehoboth Lions Club (RLC) held a community walk for childhood cancer on Saturday.
The awareness campaign was titled ‘Big Walk for Little Warriors’.
The Rehoboth community and supporters joined a 5km charity walk, which was aimed at raising awareness of and funds for childhood cancer patients, says RLC treasurer Cathleen Benade.
She says all funds will be donated to the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN).
“Everyone was welcome to attend – both old and young. Childhood cancer is one of the support pillars of Lions Clubs International.
“All Namibian clubs have pledged to support the awareness day. We would like to thank CAN, the community, sponsors and our members for their dedication to help make the event a success,” Benade says.
Community member Charlotte Smith says she joined the walk because it is important to help raise awareness of cancer.
“Childhood cancer, though rare, is a leading cause of death in children, with leukemia, brain tumours, and lymphomas being the most common types.
“We as community members must be willing to learn so we can be there for one another,” she says.
