The D1210 road at Rehoboth is officially open to residents, after being upgraded from a gravel road to bitumen standard.
The manager for Infrastructure, town planning and technical services at the Rehoboth Town Council, Rudolf Muhembo, said the road is approximately 1.14 km long.
Muhembo said the project was completed in 3 months, ahead of the 6-month schedule given to contractors.
“For this project, 100% of the work [was] done that was in the initial scope design. I would like to express my satisfaction with the work done by both the consultant and the contractor,” Muhembo said.
According to Sebke Civil Contractors managing director Jacobus Majiedt, they hired approximately 133 local SME’s, artisans, labourers, equipment operators and support staff – excluding their permanent staff.
“Local companies experienced a higher utilisation rate. Local material suppliers benefitted from orders for sand, crush stone, cement and other construction materials,” said Majiedt.
Rehoboth mayor Justin Coetzee said the new road marks a significant milestone for the current Rehoboth Town Council administration and its political leadership in improving service delivery to Rehoboth and its residents.
“Rehoboth deserves a modern, reliable and resilient transport system, and delivering it will require bold decisions and disciplined execution,” he said.
Coetzee said similar projects at the town are planned.
