Republican Party leader Henk Mudge promises to nationalise mines, fishing industry in election manifesto

The Republican Party (RP) has promised to nationalise the country’s mines and the fishing industry if voted into power.

This is contained in the party’s manifesto, which its president, Henk Mudge, launched in Windhoek last month.

Mudge claims Namibians have since independence been robbed of billions of dollars by multinational companies and entities which benefited from the country’s natural resources with a minimum amount of income directed to the government.

“The RP as government will nationalise all current mines and the fishing industry, and will have such operations conducted through a tender process which will result in the Namibian government maximising the income from such resources,” he said.

Mudge said the country’s natural resources, such as minerals, fisheries, oil and natural gas, belong to every Namibian.

“The wealth created from these resources should therefore be shared by the entire population,” he said.

Mudge said his party as a government would not allow any local individuals and companies without the resources to partner with international companies for them to obtain mining and fishing licences.
