Ovaherero faction to install Riruako as paramount chief

One of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) factions is set to inaugurate academic Hoze Riruako as its seventh paramount chief this weekend.

This is despite the other group crowning professor Mutjinde Katjiua as its paramount chief last year.

The two groups have been at loggerheads over who should be the legitimate paramount chief and the procedures to be followed.

So far, the two factions have filed several urgent court applications concerning the matter.

Although the event kicks off today, Riruako’s crowning is set to take place at Okahandja on Saturday.

On Sunday, OTA will commemorate the Red Flag (Otjiserandu) day.

Riruako told Desert Radio on Friday that he is honoured to lead his people.

“It is very gratifying as a Herero person. And I owe a lot of gratitude and appreciation to the Herero community for bestowing so much trust in me as one of their children to take the throne of the mighty Ovaherero people,” he said.
