THE Roads Authority has cautioned against fraudsters using its name to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, mostly people who fail their learner’s licence, of their money.
A statement issued on Wednesday said the fraudsters offer learner’s licences in exchange for payment via cardless withdrawal services.
“The scammers have been using RA staff members’ photos as their WhatsApp profile pictures to mislead the public and carry out their fraudulent activities,” the statement said.
It further said the RA is taking the necessary steps to ensure that those involved will face the law.
“All payments related to Namibia Traffic Information System (NaTIS) services are done over the counter at our NaTIS offices countrywide,” it said, adding that Roads Authority does not accept or provide options for cardless withdrawal services.
The RA also said applicants who failed their learner licence tests should follow the correct procedure and apply to re-write their tests.
All suspicious activities can be reported to 08191847 (MTC) or 0800309231 (TN Mobile), or to the nearest police station. Both numbers are toll-free.
