Rössing appoints new chairman

THE Rössing Uranium board of directors has appointed Johannes !Gawaxab, as director and chairman of Rössing with effect from 1 September 2014.

This follows the retirement of Rehabeam Hoveka, chairman of the Rössing board since 1 April 2008.

!Gawaxab has a successful track record in the business industry and has worked across various functions and jurisdictions, which include Finance, Commercial, Planning, Strategy and Operations in Namibia, the UK/Ireland, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Since 2006 !Gawaxab has held the position of MD Africa Operations of Old Mutual. Prior to this he was the CEO of Old Mutual Namibia, CEO of Old Mutual Asset Managers Namibia and CEO of Old Mutual Employee Benefits Namibia. Before joining Old Mutual, !Gawaxab held the position of general manager of Air Namibia.

He serves as chairman of the national oil company of Namibia, Namcor, and on the Board of Ohorongo Cement. He chairs the Board of Old Mutual in Kenya, Nigeria and Zimbabwe and serves on the board of Old Mutual Namibia.
