Rundu man commits suicide

A 23-YEAR-OLD man committed suicide at Rundu by hanging with an electrical cable in his room, after posting his intention on his WhatsApp status earlier on Saturday.

The incident happened on Saturday at NHE location at the Kavango East town.

The deceased was identified as Hango Matheus Shaanika (23) and his next of kin have been informed of his death.

Kavango East regional crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu confirmed the incident to The Namibian yesterday, saying that an inquest docket was opened and police investigations continue.

“No suicide note was found. However on his WhatsApp post earlier that day, he posted that he wanted to take his own life because his brother always blamed him for everything. He was found hanging around 05h00 in his bedroom,” he explained.

In an unrelated matter, Kanyetu said that also on Saturday, a nine-year-old girl drowned in the river near Kayengona village.

The deceased was identified as Ndara Werner Vihemba.

“It is alleged that around 15h25 the deceased went with her aunt to the river to fish and she drowned while they were fishing. Her body was recovered and police investigations continue,” he said.

Kanyetu further said a case of culpable homicide was opened on Sunday after an adult pedestrian was hit by a car at around 20h00 at Arevashweneka village and died on the spot. The deceased was identified as Nangura Patricia.

“It is alleged that the deceased was lying in the road and suspected to be drunk. The body was transported to Nyangana hospital,” he explained.

The driver is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court during the week.
