Rundu’s Ngandu Festival to take place over Easter weekend

The newly launched Ngandu Festival will take place on 20 April at Rundu Sports Stadium. The event, which will take place under the theme ‘Creating the Ultimate Kavango Experience’, is a platform for Namibian-owned businesses and artists in the Kavango region to promote, sell and grow their product offerings.

Founder of the festival Andreas Gustav outlined the diversity to be found at the gathering. “Amongst the exhibitors are also sketch artists, painters and renowned woodcarvers of the Kavango,” he said.

“This event aims to promote business empowerment through the use of a multiple stall set-up and at the same time create awareness for their businesses.”

The event is expected to bring the Kavango community and all Namibians together to showcase and celebrate local sports, music, food, drinks and other various creative art forms.

Performances by local artists such as Tate Buti, MIG, Jeiyo, TKB, Joac Nogava, Dope Society and House Boyz are on the line-up, as is a volleyball tournament and a play area for children to ensure that young and old enjoy a Saturday of fun and games.

“Ngandu will be an annual event that will entrust all the planning, controlling and execution of the event to the Kavango youth through an intern mentorship empowerment programme,” said Gustav.

The organising committee will also be running a social media campaign which gives the Kavango people the opportunity to nominate and vote for a deserving charity to benefit from the proceeds.

Tickets are available at Pick n Pay outlets countrywide, via Webtickets and at the gate.
