SADC electoral mission endorses ECN’s election readiness ahead of November polls

An assessment mission by the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC) notes that the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is ready for the country’s forthcoming elections.

The ECF-SADC dispatched a team to Namibia on Friday, led by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s Priscilla Chigumba.

The team met with the ECN and expressed confidence and satisfaction regarding the state of preparedness for the 27 November Presidential and National Assembly elections.

“The team is deployed in line with the revised principles for election management, monitoring and observation in the SADC region, where pre-assessment missions are deployed to the host country ahead of the elections to ascertain whether preconditions exist for the ECF-SADC to dispatch an observer mission,” notes the ECN.

The ECN says it has already set the ball rolling in a bid to gather a team of local observers to monitor the looming elections. This is in line with Section 56 of the Electoral Act.
