SADC launches electoral observer mission

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has launched its electoral observation mission in Namibia ahead of the 27 November elections.

Head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission Anne Makinda on Wednesday said Namibia’s elections are the last wave of voting in the region.

“On our SADC schedule, these elections are the last for the year, in what has been an extremely busy electoral calendar,” she said.

Makinda noted that the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) was in Namibia between July and August to assess whether the political and security environment in the country was conducive for elections.

“The SEAC’s responsibilities were also to assess whether the legal framework governing elections is in place, and if the ECN is prepared to conduct democratic elections,” she added.
