Zambezi governor Lawrence Sampofu has called for peace, hard work and dedication to ensure service delivery in the region.
Sampofu made these remarks during his official new year’s message.
“Everybody must ask himself or herself – what did I do last year and what should I do this year for improvements for the development of my country,” he said.
He noted that although the country is drought stricken, people must work hard to overcome the odds.
Sampofu cautioned against drinking and driving, emphasising that people’s lives are precious.
He said the police’s ‘Operation Rainbow’ is in full swing, with officers contactable and visible in most parts of the region.
“Let’s have and maintain peace, no fighting. Those who are going for boozing, please make sure you don’t drink and drive because we don’t want to lose lives. People’s lives are so precious to us,” he said.
Sampofu noted that the government had made strides in various sectors, including education, road rehabilitation, rural electrification, as well as health and agriculture, among others.
He also urged Namibians to conduct themselves appropriately in 2025.
