Sanlam Namibia has reiterated its support towards the fight against cancer.
The company once again partnered with the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) as the primary sponsor of the annual Hats & Roses event that took place on Saturday.
The insurance company has been actively supporting the Hats & Roses initiative for the past five years, a partnership that has lasted for more than two decades.
The fundraiser hosted by CAN has evolved from a simple garden celebration among friends to a flagship morning of hope over the past two decades.
It not only raises funds, but also brings together people from various sectors to address the fight against breast cancer and make a lasting impact in Namibia.
Themed ‘Pink Africa’, the event celebrated the resilience of African women.
The event has evolved over time, embracing new forms while commemorating the fundamental principles of unity and hope.
“We are grateful for Sanlam’s continued support of the Hats & Roses programme.
This partnership has become an indispensable component of our endeavours to combat breast cancer in Namibia.
This event is not solely about fundraising; it is about investing in a cause that impacts many of our loved ones,” says CAN chief executive Rolf Hansen.
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, through Globocan data, Namibia recorded 3 453 cancer cases overall in 2022, with breast cancer accounting for 553 cases, making it one of the leading cancers in the country.
It is projected that the number of breast cancer cases will exceed 1 100 annually by 2050, if no urgent interventions are implemented.
Sanlam’s involvement in Hats & Roses is aligned with its corporate social responsibility pillar of health and welfare, providing support to vulnerable groups and assisting organisations such as CAN in their efforts to combat severe diseases.
Sanlam spokesperson Laurencia Prinzonsky says the company is dedicated to supporting initiatives that improve the lives of Namibians, especially in the area of health and welfare.
“The Hats & Roses event is a perfect example of a community-driven initiative that makes a real difference, and we are honoured to play a role in ensuring that more women have access to screening and the support they need,” she says.
