Senior government officials are prohibited from all international travel until the transition to a new government has taken place.
In a directive issued yesterday, president Nangolo Mbumba announced the temporary travel ban for government leaders as part of the ongoing political transition process.
He said ministers, deputies and executive directors have been instructed to refrain from international travel until president-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s administration is in place.
Mbumba also said executive directors should focus on assisting their respective ministers during this transition period.
The directive, communicated by Cabinet secretary George Simataa, states: “The president has directed that all foreign travel by ministers and deputy ministers be suspended with immediate effect, and that all leaders focus their attention on urgent executive and parliamentary work, including finalising ministerial programmes.
“This directive also applies to executive directors and accounting officers. The executive directors are expected to stay home to assist their ministers and should not submit requests for international travel. Only local trips will be considered.”
The restriction is expected to remain in effect until the political transition is concluded on 21 March.
