SFF at centre of new claims

SFF at centre of new claims

A 47-YEAR-OLD man was hospitalised after he was allegedly assaulted by members of the Special Field Force at Katima Mulilo last weekend – allegedly for using a Government vehicle after hours.

Beatrice Ambondo told Nampa on Sunday that her husband, Theophillus, had to be operated on for kidney failure. Ambondo alleged that Special Field Force members stopped her husband because he was using a Government truck and transporting maize meal. She further alleged that her husband had wanted to take SFF members to his supervisor at the Government Garage. The supervisor had given him permission to make use of the car since he was on duty during the weekend.”They started to beat him with the butts of their guns although he explained that he had permission to make use of the car,” she claimed.Ambondo alleged that they then took her husband to the Police Station in the town where they locked him up and continued to beat him.”My husband fought for this country and now he is being treated like a rebel,” she said.Approached for comment, Deputy Commissioner Hophni Hamufungu told Nampa that the family should formally report the case, which would then be handled by the Complaints and Discipline Unit of the Police.”We cannot allow such things to happen,” he said.Ambondo said a case had not yet been opened as the family still needed to get a certificate from the doctor detailing her husband’s injuries.- NampaAmbondo alleged that Special Field Force members stopped her husband because he was using a Government truck and transporting maize meal.
