Shapaka loses in boxing

Namibia got off to a losing start in boxing at the Commonwealth Games on Friday, when Immanuel Shapaka lost his flyweight fight against Simon Nzioka of Kenya.

In a close fight, Nzioka shaded it 2-1 on the judges scorecard.

There will be more boxing action on Saturday with three Namibians in action.

In the men’s Lightweight (60kg) Round of 32 (13:30) Lazarus Shaningwa will fight Kaisa Ioane from Samoa.

In the men’s Middleweight (75kg) Round of 32 (16:30) Mujandjae Kasuto will take on Joseph Mwaselange from Tanzania.

In the Men’s light welterweight (64kg) Round of 32 Junias Jonas will enter the ring against Aamir Khan from Pakistan on Saturday evening (20:30).

Namibia’s men’s Pairs bowls team of Douw Calitz and Will Esterhuizen play Australia today (11:45) in their last group match. Both teams are unbeaten and will play for the group win today. Both teams are however already qualified for the Quarterfinals this afternoon.

Namibia’s men’s Trips team take on Niue (8:45), but unfortunately they are out of contention for a place in the quarterfinals.
