The second edition of the Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup is scheduled to be launched on 25 March.
A media statement issued by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) on Monday said the actual competition is scheduled to take place from 2 to 5 May at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
The Khomas Region are the defending champions of the Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup, having won the first edition by beating Erongo 2-1 in the final at Keetmanshoop last year.
The Oshikoto Region finished third by overcoming Oshana 2-1, while the Otjozondjupa Region won the Fair Play award. The Moment of Brilliance award went to Pandeni Kandjabanga of the Oshana Region.
Oshikoto striker Josef Utoni scored 11 goals in six games to win the Golden Shoe award, while Khomas’s Jandjamuje Maharero was voted Player of the Tournament, and he also finished joint second on the Top Goal scorer list with eight goals together with Otjozondjupa’s Hezeeko Katjiukua.
Khomas goalkeeper Benni Ochurub was voted Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
“The first edition of this Skorpion Zinc Under-17 Cup saw the successful implementation of the El-Tracking system by which all necessary national identify documents were submitted to the organising committee for verification meant to eradicate age-cheating,” stated the NFA.
The NFA and mining giant Skorpion Zinc in March last year announced a sponsorship deal worth N$1.3 million for a period of three years.
