* A CAMPAIGN for patriotism? I have been a true patriot for 10 years, by having abided by our Constitution and our laws, by not stealing or defrauding the public, by paying taxes faithfully and on time, working hard and creating jobs (including for indifferent and lazy employees). All that I am asking my government in return, is to do the same. But my government doesn’t even have the resolve to recover the ODC millions. So, sorry, please don’t ask me for cheap displays of patriotism. Count me out on this one.
Food For Thought
* WHY does the National Council have to request the Ombudsman to do an investigation [into The Namibian’s SMS page] if our Constitution [on freedom of speech] is already clear? And why do our leaders particularly those of the ruling party interpret every criticism against them as an insult or provocation? Our Founding Father wants to be worshipped like a semi-god in this country. Our leaders should know they will never shut us down.

Politics
* IS it fair that Swapo uses State resources on [Jacob] Zuma’s visit to Swapo cadres and how does Zuma know that he will win or be the South African president?
* SWAPO and the ANC, previous troubles in Africa were caused by tribalism. The current threat is partyism like Zanu-PF in Zimbabwe. Put country first, not the party.
* WHAT does a black star mean? Stars in the sky are not black. I am referring to the black star in the RDP flag. Please RDP be so kind and explain what you mean!
– U2, Ongwediva.
* SWAPO think tank a brilliant idea. Dr (Nickey) Iyambo look at the following: Helao Nafidi situation, listen to the chat show programmes, study loans and youth employment.
– J, Windhoek
* MS Mensah, is it only Swapo leaders and more specificully Swapo President Pohamba and former Swapo President Nujoma to call opposition leaders names? They should not cry because we are only following their example.
Zimbabwe
* (ROBERT) Mugabe and (Morgan) Tsvangirai are both power hungry. Both of them don’t consider how Zimbabweans are suffering yet they are sitting pretty. All they can think of is the so-called ‘power-sharing’. Yet people are dying of AIDS, hunger and cholera.
* THE saying is, one right begins where the other ends. Is there an exception when it comes to President Mugabe, who has the whole nation’s rights, while only he is right in doing wrong? We ‘enjoy’ December 10. What about our fellow Zimbabwean colleagues!
– JN
* NATIS Oshakati branch should recruit enough staff to avoid unnecessary movement from one point to another. After all it is the only branch in the North.
* PREVENTION is better than cure, now millions are spent on humanitarian assistance. If SADC leaders had taken action against Mugabe, Zimbabweans would not suffer as the case is now.
* THE Namibian Government and SADC have failed Zimbabwe. N$1,7 million of cholera medicine is not going to help Zimbabwe. Getting rid of Zimbabwe’s dictator, Robert Mugabe, is only the start to solving the problems Mr Mugabe created and he should be charged with crimes against humanity! Let’s hope the Namibian Government does the right thing.
* WHAT a shame to Swapo and ANC for still backing Robert Mugabe, a cruel man who has led his nation to poverty. People are dying right now in Zimbabwe because of his evil government. Stop being cowards. Tell him the truth.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* THE Namibian website now looks fabulous and great! I believe it marks the beginning of, yet another, new era of enhanced communication. Congratulations on your fresh updated look and keep telling it like it is.
– Endjala
* PUPKEWITZ Toyota (Windhoek) I like the service of the sales and parts staff, but improvement at the workshop will complete the satisfaction.
In And From the Regions
n WHY can’t we get an old-age home for the pensioners of Lordsville and Westerkim, other pensioners have their own complex.
* URGENT need for basic services. The Uutsathima area has no clean water, no network, the road is a disaster and electricity is taboo. Police officers, teachers and nurses are suffering. GRN please do something.
– Steven
* GROOT AUB Community Council, what is your purpose? A year has gone and what have you achieved? Nothing. If you can’t do the job there are people who can.
– Snoop Dogg
* OKAHANDJA Municipality please there are too many potholes on your tarred roads. Do something before something happens.
– Dizza Gawanab
* CAN the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration not introduce a border pass system at borders in the Karas Region, the same system which is used in the north and north east. Again the councillors don’t care or they don’t know their responsibilities.
General
* I THINK Madam (Margaret) Mensah is only concerned about the SMSes where the people write about her. Now she is using the President as an excuse.
* PLEASE investigate illegal shebeens in Clemens Kapuuo Street, Dolam.
– Concerned Resident
* HON (Ngarikutuke) Tjiriange the year is ended now and you did not do anything about us (ex-combatants), we hope in the beginning of the year you will do something good for us.
* SOME Swapo Members of Parliament, please have respect for the Hon Speaker whenever she asks you or the House for order!! What kind of behaviour or picture are you showing to the youth and nation at large?
* I AM supporting the idea which was taken by the SA economist to establish ‘The new crisis management team’ – to be made up of officials from business, labour and the government, as well as community representatives which must persuade the state to spend money, including borrowing more, running a larger budget deficit, to make up for the drop in consumer confidence. Why can we also not follow their idea NCCI, all unions and employers federations, GRN, as well as community representatives? Namibia is not excluded from this crisis. Therefore I am also urging particularly our unions to initiate this idea because this recession is having effects on their members and leave politics out and let’s save the situation first. I hope the call is clear.
– MHH
* THIS is an appeal to the Hon Prime Minister to investigate the operations of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration head office. Work permit processing is now taking too long. We cannot travel anymore waiting for our documents.
Health Matters
* OUR Government and MoHSS it’s good to help Zimbabwe fight cholera, but what about patients having operations by candlelight at Katutura hospital? That’s sheer hypocrisy.
* ACCORDING to The Namibian of December 8, teachers with HIV will be provided with a pack of immuno-booster. Question? How are you going to distribute those immuno-boosters?
* NAMIBIA became the first SADC country to assist with the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe, but none of the affected countries responded.
– Stephanie
Justice for All
* WHAT is going on in the Office of the Prosecutor General? A case under ref. PGD 19/6/2005 is taking them some five years to take a decision on, is this really justice ? PG please respond!
Education
* I FAIL to understand our education system. Why is it that unqualified candidates are appointed permanently and qualified candidates for the teaching posts are appointed temporarily?
– Mr Ishort Iyo, Katima Mulilo
* MINISTRY of Education, please employ more teachers to do the marking. We also want our NSSC-Ordinary level results early (in December). Thank you.
Service Please
* WOERMANN Brock Hyper Khomasdal: more poor service … Cracked, leaking coffee cups, then the supervisor tells you only the waitress can sort it out. To top it, she tells another customer that our table is ‘kerming’ (moaning). Namibia we need to change and speak against these people taking the jobs and money from others who may do a better job.
* PANAROTTIS slow delivery and takeaway service: one cannot order either one and trust that you will receive the correct order, nor receive it promptly. It’s so poor that we have gone as far as returning a delivery for a refund.
* WE the customers of St
andard Bank Namibia would like to extend our dissatisfaction to the board and ask them to introduce the cellphone banking for us.
Labour Issues
* PLEASE put these in my favourite newspaper The Namibian. I’m a cadet trainee in the construction industry at one of Namibia’s own civil engineering contractor companies. I’m not happy with the Government tender board for awarding all the tenders to the Chinese construction companies. Where will we get jobs as young civil technicians? At Chinese companies? No way!
* THANKS for this space. I just would to know a couple of things from G4S Armed Response management. Are you paying your officers what they deserve? Are their lives covered? Do you consider their safety off duty, as I’m sure they’ve got lots of enemies? And most of all, do they get legal representative from the company? I know that, if one is happy with his/her work, they won’t do silly things, which has become tradition with some of the officers.
– A concerned parent. Thank you
ACC Alert
* WHAT does ACC stand for? Why do they only fight against inside evils for, I mean township evils? Why? In Tsumkwe, there are corrupt activities going on. Government vehicles used out of hours with no control and all sorts of friends included.
* ACC please check into resettlement on farms in the Karas Region. because only certain people are blessed although they know nothing about farming
Disconnections
* CAN someone please help us with service at Khorixas. We don’t watch TV anymore or listen to the radio. But you people expect us to pay our TV licences! Khorixas!
* WHAT happened to the TV signal in Otjiwarongo (NBC). It’s four days that we don’t have NBC TV.
* MTC are you serious with your offer? Do you think most of us your customers don’t sleep? Please rather stop this offer cause we are not benefiting at all.
Sporting
* NFA and NPL please stop using old referees. They are too old and unfit. You guys who are good please.
* RONNIE Kanalelo should not be so arrogant and boastful. He is a professional. Soccer fields are about balls, not guns.
* TO the sport lovers, let us leave those who want to rise in their career like Ronnie Kanalelo. He is working hard. A man with a dream to become a coach of any team or national team coach of Namibia. To the Namibians what is our aim? Is it to insult or to learn or teach? Everyone has vision and is gifted. Leave Ronnie Kanalelo alone.
– Kanalelo family
* I THINK Fifa should disqualify South Africa as host of the 2010 World Cup. Reasons: 1. Xenophobia/violence/crime, 2. Economic meltdown of the Zimbabwean economy, 3. The cholera outbreak and other diseases. The last two are products of Thabo Mbeki’s failed quiet diplomacy. South Africa is not playing its role.
– Kondja
* THE advert of Windhoek Lager is presided over by Christian Ronaldo’s free kick goal. Why not replace it with Wiko Risser’s fabulous goal against Zimbabwe?
Free Speech
* MY problem in this country of ours is not about the existence or non-existence of the freedom of speech, but rather, the freedom after you have spoken.
