* I CONGRATULATE the Minister of Health and his team on their efforts to ensure quality health care for all. In their noble task they need support from us all. Research done worldwide shows that many patients who go to hospital outpatient clinics have psychological problems manifesting into physical illness, and due to a lack of proper detection and treatment end up consuming a lot of expensive drugs unnecessarily thus straining budget allocations. Good mental health programmes in the long run have the benefit of reducing budgets. In this regard I suggest the following: basic psychiatry must be taught by qualified mental health personnel at all medical training institutions, community psychiatry programmes should started for early detection treatment and follow-up care, school mental health programmes to educate youth and community on drug or substance abuse and also adolescence crises. – Mental health worker

* THEY say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely! When a brave Namibian team tries to open doors abroad, corrupt officials shut them again. We should not let these people get away with such scandalous behaviour, Namibia. They are dragging Namibian rugby through the mud. And mark my words, the guilty party is always someone else! Get a new NRU Board consisting of members of the local teams who have a vested interest in the sport and its upliftment. Food for thought* IT seems like employment adverts by the NDF are just for formality reasons. Why? Because the generals’ and the colonels’ kids do not go through the same procedures as every Namibian to get employed in the force. Please ACC, show us that you are not just targeting tadpoles in the water while dangerous sharks are passing under the bridge. Investigate the new intake of Air Force and Navy. Scan the so-called additional and cultural groups. I’m amazed though and wonder whose culture the Air Force of Namibia will choose at the expense of others.* IT was with great interest that I read your article about stock theft and the GRN vehicle transporting the carcasses not being searched at road blocks. Could this be how the B1 Butcher transports his victims? With GRN number plates?* MINISTER of Education, is it economically viable to pay a school principal with a total enrolment of 48 or 57 learners and two teachers the same salary as the one with 1 200 learners and 30 teachers? To be specific, I was a passenger on a bus last Friday from Swakopmund to Windhoek. I wouldn’t trust the man behind the wheel even to carry a half full glass of water from the kitchen to the dining room table, due to his state of fitness (old). My questions are, which policy is the school following, is the director for Hardap education region aware of this issue?* IN August we were informed to apply for Grade 8 placements for our kids for next year. As a parent I hate doing this type of thing at the last minute, and I applied to six different schools only to receive negative responses from all and to be told to consult the Ministry of Education. Now I am asking myself whereto now? What if the ministry for some reason cannot enrol my child, who by the way has a clean record at her current school where she has schooled since Grade1? – Concerned parent* WHY did they not make us aware of the changes affecting the Government study loans at the beginning of the year? Ministry of Health we are wondering if our salaries will be up to date after completing our studies?* WHAT is happening with the students loans of Namibians studying teaching in Zimbabwe? We were sent to Zimbabwe and to our own surprise, we have to go back at our own cost. If the Ministry cannot run this programme, it’s quite wise to stop it rather than sending people to suffer.From the regions* THE Councillor of the Okankolo Constituency or any relevant authority in the Oshikoto Region should tell us what happened and what went wrong with the Okankolo to Onkumbula gravel road project? The trees we have cleared for the construction of the road are growing again. A feasibility study has been done already, but all of a sudden the idea seem to have been abandoned. Why?* I’M tired of transporting corpses to the mortuary after 16h00 and cleaning and transporting patients once admitted from the casualty to the wards. Mr Kamwi, why we don’t we have porters and cleaners on night duty at Engela hospital? I suggest the mortuary be closed at night and corpses be taken to Oshakati where the mortuary has porters 24/7. I’m confused, I don’t know if I am a nurse, a cleaner or a porter. Mr Hamudamba, please tell me. No wonder we don’t put on epaulettes. – Frustrated nurse Guards for Iraq* HIS Excellency President Pohamba, let APS recruit ex-fighters do security jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan, but just provide them with a one-way air ticket as you offered those who want to take the father of nation to ICC. The problem of ex-fighters’ demands will be solved amicably and you won’t need a Ministry of War Veterans to waste taxpayers’ money.* THE issue of APS and American SOC-SMG needs crucial scrutiny. The question begs, why Iraq not here or other countries with peace and stability? GRN open your eyes. This must not tolerated in Namibia. – A Itoolwa* WHAT’S going on in our beloved Motherland? Things are going the wrong way. What’s in the mind of APS management? Please those who don’t deserve peace must pack-up and leave we don’t want a repeat of our sad history.
