‘Snatched’ is so-so

Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn star in ‘Snatched’ (2017). A mother-daughter romp that sees the blondes flaunt their comedic chops in a script scarcely worth the punchlines.

Returning to the silver screen after a 15-year hiatus, Hawn plays the paranoid mother to Schumer’s train wreck millennial whose non-refundable trip to Ecuador turns out to be more than what she paid bottom dollar for.

Telling a travel story of fever dreams, ‘Snatched’ has it all – tapeworm removal, a kidnapping, magical locals and bloodthirsty gangsters. What may be missing, however, is the ability to string it all together in a film that is even mildly coherent.

In your face, over the top and completely crude, as per Schumer’s style, ‘Snatched’ gets props for being a female led comedy in which the lead is, well, pretty gross but loses points for being entirely on the nose.

Also starring Wanda Sykes and Joan Cusack as a droll mute, the film has its moments but, with ‘Death Becomes Her’s’ 25th anniversary harking back to Hawn’s heyday, plays as a little beneath the legendary leading lady.

See this if you stand for Private B anyway, miss this if you dislike Schumer.
