Namibia notched up their second victory at the Africa Cricket Cup in Benoni on Wednesday when they thrashed Tanzania by 188 runs.
Gerrie Snyman led the way with a brilliant century to help Namibia reach an impressive 318 for seven wickets in their 50 overs. They then skittled Tanzania out for 130, with JJ Smit and Ricardo Strauss taking four wickets each.
Namibia’s innings was built around a massive double century stand between Snyman and Sarel Burger. After Picky Ya France was first out for 12 runs, Burger and Snyman put Namibia in the driving seat with a 225-run partnership at more than six runs per over.
Burger played the anchor role and was eventually out for 74 runs off 114 balls, but Snyman was the aggressor and reached his century off 84 balls.
After reaching his hundred, Snyman stepped up the tempo and was eventually out for 171 runs off 136 balls, which included 27 fours.
Further down the order JJ Smit scored 11 and Nicolaas Scholtz 19 as Namibia reached 318/7 off their 50 overs.
JJ Smit gave Namibia a perfect start to Tanzania’s innings when he grabbed their first three wickets with only 11 runs on the board.
Tanzania could not recover, and although their middle order tried to launch a comeback, they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Nasibu Mapunda top-scored with 48 as they were eventually all out for 130 runs.
Namibia’s best bowlers were JJ Smit, who took 4/20 off six overs and Ricardo Strauss who took 4/19 off 7,4 overs.
It was Namibia’s second victory at the tournament following their win against the SA Invitational side on Monday.
On Tuesday, Namibia suffered their first defeat when they lost by six wickets to the Zimbabwean Invitational side.
In other matches on Wednesday, Uganda shocked the SA Invitation team with a 144-run victory.
Uganda scored 281/7 off 50 overs while SA Invitation were all out for 137 off 37,5 overs.
The Zimbabwe Invitational team notched up their third victory of the tournament after beating Kenya by 43 runs.
Zimbabwe scored 247 all out off 47,5 overs, while Kenya scored 204 all out off 45,2 overs.
